We support carefully selected open-source
course management systems for those who wish to deliver their content
without getting involved in the details of technical support.
We also provide opportunities for institutions to pilot modern course management systems without committing to a full implementation. The Longsight Group is currently working with Sakai and Moodle.
The Open Knowledge Initiative has created a great deal of interest in course management systems created for higher education by higher education. Members of The Longsight Group have been involved in OKI activities since October, 2001. We are supporting open source CMS products in several ways:
- We support pilot projects for institutions who want their faculties to experience fully these emerging models of open source software without making a long-term insitutional commitment.
- We are working with non-profit organizations who seek to deliver specialized content to students throughout North America using open source course management software.
- We are providing technical support and training for institutions who wish to install, configure and run local instances of selected open source CMS.
